  • TSEP#177 Free Energy? How Renewables And Intelligent Energy Management Can Make This Dream Come True
    May 30 2024

Demand-side flexibility is essential for an energy system, with an increasing number of decentralized and renewable energy resources. Both the energy system and society in general rely on consumers who adapt their energy consumption to the available grid capacity. Digitalization and new technologies such as smart meters and market-based solutions are turning consumers into active players. So how could demand-side flexibility be incentiviced and what could flexibility marketing look like in different sectors? And which role do home batteries and the aggregation of small producers and consumers play? Kieron Stopforth, Senior Manager at Octopus Energy Group reveals that and more.

    Timeline:

    • 02:04 Why is demand-side flexibility essential for a flexible energy system?

    • 08:55 Which assets have the biggest potential for flexibility?

    • 11:22 What about the homeowners' batteries to store grid electricity when it is cheap so that it can be fed back into the grid at times of high prices?

    • 15:30 What conditions must an electricity market fulfill for a business model like Octopus Energy Group with flexibility to work?

    • 20:25 What needs to be done to make better use of existing flexibility potential and how can people be motivated to make their flexibility available?

  • TSEP#176 Smart Kombiniert – Zukunftstechnologien im E-Handwerk
    May 23 2024

  • TSEP#175 Energy Storage Boom: Global Growth Rates and New Markets up to 2030
    May 16 2024

Last year marked a turning point with record additions in the energy storage industry, and the outlook to 2030 is even more impressive. Experts at BloombergNEF forecast annual growth of 27%, with annual additions expected to reach 110 GW or 372 GWh by 2030, more than two and a half times the 2023 installations. This momentum is fueled by targeted subsidies and policy reforms that favor energy storage projects. New markets are opening up around the world that are increasingly relying on energy storage solutions to meet their capacity requirements. The Asia-Pacific region in particular, led by China, is seeing strong growth, accounting for almost half of global access. But what is actually happening deep in the West, in South America, but also in Latin America? We explore this question in this episode with Markus Vlasits, NewCharge Energy and Patricia Tatto, ATA Renewables.

    Timeline:

    • 03:13 Overview of the global energy storage market? What are the most important trends and innovations at the moment?

    • 11:27 What is the state of manufacturing in the global energy storage market? How is the market currently structured, how are the locations in Europe and South/Central/North America developing?

    • 23:22 Deep Dive Mexico: How do the political and regulatory frameworks in Mexico influence the energy storage market?

    • 25:17 Deep Dive South America: What are the special features of the energy storage market in South America, particularly in Chile and Brazil?

    • 31:10 Global Technological advances: What new technologies or innovations in energy storage do you find particularly promising?
