    Goal-setting ground rules:

    • They have to be realistic
    • They have to be obtainable within the year
    • They have to be something you actually want or need
    • It has to be something you can control (a wish: something you hope happens. A goal: steps you will take, actions you will take), you’re going to take action

    Choosing your goals:

    • Career
    • Physical
    • Relationship
    • Financial
    • Spiritual
    • Self care

Your goals have to take priority in your life.

    Finding your goals:

    • What do you want? Or what are you lacking?
    • Write all the things you can think of down
    • Pick 1 or 2 that you either really want or that seem really tangible and easy

    • break down the steps
    • Create a time frame or timeline (most goals shouldn’t take a year)
    • Trim the fat - what needs to be removed from your schedule to get your goal
    • Set a reminder for 2 weeks from now

  • S2 E9 I "Picking a Fight"
    Oct 7 2025

Too many Electricians in the field discourage the study of the National Electrical Code, sometimes without knowing it. When we say things like "we don't use the NEC on job-sites," although this may be true for the most part, it sends a message to the younger tradesmen and tradeswomen that the NEC doesn't matter. I think it's time for us to pick a fight with this idea and push back on this limiting mindset

    Feb 10 2025

5 Things to avoid during the Journeyman Exam.

There’s a lot of good information on what TO DO when taking the journeyman exam but very little on what you SHOULDN’T DO.

These 5 things can be the key you need to pass that journeyman exam and move forward in your electrical career:

    5 things do avoid ⬇️⬇️⬇️

    1. Don’t second guess yourself (change answers unless you’re %100 sure)

    2. Don’t Linger to long on a question (some questions are designed to eat your time)

    3. Rush to answer a question (read each question twice)

    4. Don’t use the other two books they give you

    5. Don’t immediately start the test when you sit down

  • S2 E4 | 5 Tips For Exam Day | Journeyman Exam
    Nov 11 2024

On this episode I share 5 tips for when you’re taking the electrical journeyman exam.

    Here’s the tips

    - The Exam time doesn’t start until you press start on the test screen. Use this time to put tabs (which are provided by the test site) in the NEC on sections you want to find easily. Like different tables.

    - Use your scratch paper to write down equations you know you might use on the exam. This helps you to not trip up when answering a question that needs an equation. For example: I wrote the constant of copper which is 12.9 because it’s used to calculate voltage drop and the the equation: 2kil/CM. I wrote 3.732: the square root of 3 also: P/E•I & E/R•I for ohms law. I knew these things, I just didn’t want to go blank trying to remember them under pressure.

    - Don’t spend longer than 1 and a half minutes trying to answer each question. Some questions are designed to trip you up and waist your time. If it’s taking too long to find the answer just guess and mark it. There will probably be a few questions you can answer correctly in the same amount of time you might waist on a question designed to eat up your time.

    - If one of the questions is something like: if you are troubleshooting a house that was built prior to 1955 and has a main electrical panel the is Federal Pacific, what should you do? The answer is: replace the panel (trust me)

    - Remember: all of the exam questions that can be found in the NEC will be asked in a formate that is word for word from the NEC. So when you find that answer in the NEC then you can be confident you got it right.
