Running is the one thing that we all like talking about. Every week on the award winning Women’s Running podcast, we talk all things running, women, health and fitness with our own brand of happy, irreverent chat. Esther and Holly talk through their training highs and lows, and all the bits and pieces in-between. Every so often, we invite an expert to join us to help us figure out the confusing worlds of training, recovery, nutrition, health and more. And sometimes we get to talk to an incredible woman from the world of running, from Anna McNuff to Paula Radcliffe, Susie Chan to Nicky Spinks. So why do we do it? Because we realised that most of the running podcasts we listened to were full of blokes waffling on about quads and cadence (and we realised that we can do that perfectly well ourselves, thank you very much). Right here, we talk about all the things that affect us when we step out the door: sexism, hormones, menopause, food, pelvic floors, relationships, mental health, seagull attacks and wild weeing. But. BUT. We will also talk about races, PBs, shoes, training, starting running, enjoying running, finding the fun. And quads and cadence. This is the Women’s Running podcast, and it’s for women who love to run.

    We're back!

We’re back after our Christmas break and SHOCK HORROR we’ve got a lot of running chat to get through before we even mention the new series of Traitors, so hang on to your hats. We talk about festive running, the trouble with winter run kit and various health-related issues. Big shout out to the NHS app btw – do please make use of it if you don’t already.

    New podcasts!

And a big fanfare for our two new podcasts this year – Start To Run is a repeat of last year’s 10-episode series, which will be coming out on Mondays (the first episode came out this week). On Wednesdays, we’re launching a new 10-part series, which is going to be exclusively about running and training for a half marathon. And on Fridays, we’re going to be releasing this baggy old podcast, that you know and love. Lots to listen to for the next couple of months!

Lastly, I have a quick ask of you all, please! If you’ve got a spare minute, could you fill out a super quick survey for us – it’ll help us get better, less annoying, and give you all the stuff you like the best! Thank you so much!

  • Ep 1. Start to Run: walking [RERUN]
    Jan 5 2026

Back by popular demand, we’re re-releasing the Start to Run series from the Women’s Running Podcast, where we’re making running simple again. Every week on Start to Run, Esther and Holly will cover a common myth, frequently asked question or tricky topic and get back down to basics. Whether you’re a seasoned runner returning from some time off or a total newbie, we’re here to help you get moving and to remind you that running doesn’t have to be complicated.

Walking, ‘Jeffing’ and taking it slow

Are you still a runner if you take walk breaks? In short, you obvs are. But in this episode we’re explaining why walking is such a fantastic run strategy and overall fitness tool. Long live Jeff, is all we have to say.

Couch to 5K, yay or nay?

We also share our thoughts on the oh-so-popular Couch to 5K app; which bits we love, and which bits we don’t love so much. Plus, we share our own beginner running tales and the things we wish we’d known.

  • Ep 282. Lisa Jackson
    Jan 1 2026

Welcome to episode 282 of the Women’s Running podcast. I’m your host Esther Newman and she’s your other host Holly Taylor. On this podcast we talk about health, politics, stuff on TV and what we ate last night. Occasionally, we talk about running.

In this episode, we were lucky enough to speak to the glorious Lisa Jackson - writer, author, runner, ambassador – a woman who is proud to have come last in 25 marathons (of which she has now run over a hundred). Lisa is an extraordinary woman who has suffered some horrific losses over the past few years, but has emerged phoenix-like, with a book and an unmatched energy: if you’re out there listening to this and not sure if you’re a runner, then Lisa is the woman you need to listen to.

Lisa’s book Your Pace or Mine is the best book for new and slower runners. And her latest book, Still Running After All These Tears, is available to preorder and out on the 8th January in all good book shops.
