Isaac's son Jacob often got his way, but at times, he cheated to get it. He cheated Esau out of his birthright and later the blessing he should have received as a first born son. When Jacob came to Isaac seeking the blessing, he was dressed in Esau's clothes, and he had the hair of an animal on his neck and hands. Isaac recognized the voice he heard as Jacob, but the smell of Jacob's clothes, which were Esau's, and the feel of his skin, which was covered in animal hair, convinced him it was indeed his son Esau. Even though he didn't sound like Esau, because he smelled like Esau and felt like Esau, he received the blessing. He didn't deserve the blessing just as we don't deserve to receive the gift of salvation. Being clothed as Esau made the difference. Through the story of Jacob and Esau, minister Anderson George illustrates the importance of us putting on Christ so that God will recognize Christ in us when we are before Him.
