Back in September 2021, the High Court of England and Wales agreed to intervene to ensure that legal papers from a U.S. civil lawsuit could be formally served on Prince Andrew. Virginia Giuffre, who alleged Andrew had sexually assaulted her after being trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein, had filed her suit in a New York federal court. Her legal team had struggled to complete service under U.K. law and the Hague Service Convention, with Andrew’s lawyers contesting the validity of various delivery attempts. The High Court accepted the request (after additional information was submitted) and committed to taking steps to authorize service under the Convention, thereby removing a procedural hurdle that might otherwise have stalled or dismissed the case.
