  • Seeing the Bible Come Alive With Oliver Hersey
    Sep 30 2025

Dr. Oliver Hersey joins David Capes for this episode of "The Stone Chapel Podcast." He became
president of Jerusalem University College, and now they are going through a war that began in October 2023. The college is located on Mount Zion right outside the Jerusalem city gates. Their mission is to help students see the Bible come alive as they study in the land of Israel. But that has been a challenge through COVID and now the war. Still, miracles abound, and they are ready for the next, peaceful chapter.

  • 'Under Her Wings' With Jennifer Houston McNeel
    Sep 23 2025

One theme in the New Testament that has not been studied: mothers and motherhood. That is until now. Dr. Jennifer Houston McNeel, a New Testament professor at the St. Mary’s Ecumenical Institute in Baltimore, MD, has now written that book—"Under Her Wings: Mother and Motherhood in the New Testament." She joins David Capes on "The Stone Chapel Podcast" to discuss how themes of mother and motherhood shape the story of the Gospels, but also leaders like Jesus, Paul, and John. These men talk freely about themselves as church leaders not only in fatherly tones but also in motherly as well. And they extend those qualities to God himself. It’s an important book for pastors, church leaders, and scholars alike.

  • Sacred Songs and Wise Sayings With Terry Wildman
    Sep 9 2025

Indigenous leader, Terry Wildman, is back on "The Stone Chapel Podcast." This time he and David
Capes discuss the newest release of the "First Nations Version, Psalms and Proverbs." On this episode, Darlene Wildman, Terry’s wife, plays a native flute. Her music brings out the beauty and dignity to reading Holy Scripture. The First Nations Version (FNV) renders many aspects of the Hebrew Bible in ways that speak to the ideas and values of the people who used to occupy “Turtle Island,” the native American way of talking about North America.

  • How to Choose Leaders With Nathan Hatch
    Sep 2 2025

You would figure that someone who was Provost at the University of Notre Dame and President of
Wake Forest University would know how to recruit the best leaders for the schools. And you’d be
correct. Dr. Nathan Hatch held both of those jobs for 25 years, and he learned how to recruit the best team around him. You can learn that too, but you have to be smart and secure. Read all
about it in his book, "The Gift of Transformative Leaders, Cambridge Element Series" (Cambridge
University Press). He joins David Capes on "The Stone Chapel Podcast" to talk about it.

  • Did Paul’s Theology Change? With Gary Burge
    Aug 26 2025

Gary Burge had a difficult job. This NT professor wrote the volume on Galatians and Ephesians for the “Through Old Testament Eyes” series with Kregel Academic. It was published earlier this year. He stops by to talk with David Capes about his project and that he discovered along the way, how different the two books are. So he wonders: did Paul’s theology change from his first book to his last? Not only is Paul’s context different in that roughly 14-15 year period but Paul himself may have changed. "Galatians and Ephesians Through OT Eyes: A Background and Application Commentary" (Kregel Academic, 2025).

See also, David B. Capes, "Matthew Through OT Eyes" (Kregel Academic, 2024).

  • A Fish, a Wheel, and Christ With Danny Hays
    Aug 19 2025

Symbols are all around us. They are so common we aren’t even aware they are symbols, but we know what each one means. But what happens after 1,500 years when languages and cultures have come and gone? Well, someone has to rediscover those symbols and their significance. That is exactly what Dr. Danny Hays and his colleagues have done. They have found various Christian symbols literally right under the noses of historians and archaeologists, carved into hard Roman paving stones. He joins David Capes on "The Stone Chapel Podcast" to talk about
his book, "The Ichthus Christogram and other Early Christian Symbols."
