If someone asked you, “What is salvation?” how would you answer? Many would say it’s about being forgiven of sins or going to heaven. But the Bible tells a much bigger story. Salvation is about God rescuing His people, and His creation, from the power of sin and death, and leading us into a whole new way of life.

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to walk past someone in need? Sometimes we tell ourselves, “It’s not safe,” or “Someone else will help.”

Jesus told a story about this very thing, the Good Samaritan. Two religious leaders passed by a man beaten and left for dead. But a Samaritan, someone from a group despised by the Jews, stopped. He cared for the man and made sure he was safe.

The point? Compassion doesn’t ask, “Do I have to help?” Compassion asks, “How can I be a neighbor?”

In a world quick to look away, Jesus calls us to stop, see, and show mercy. That’s what it means to love your neighbor.

Jesus is led by the Spirit, not to a place of celebration, but into the wilderness. It reminds us that wilderness seasons are not always signs of failure or distance from God. Sometimes, they are the very place where God does His deepest work in us.
