  • On the Hoof: Long Bone Deformity
    Nov 20 2025

During the spring calving season of 2025, several cases of Long Bone Deformity (LBD) were diagnosed in suckler herds. Unfortunately, by the time calves are born with this condition, there is little that can be done. However, late autumn - around the time of housing and ration changes - is the key moment to take preventive action. While predicting which herds are at greatest risk is difficult, discussing potential risks and mitigation strategies with suckler producers now can make a real difference for the 2026 calving season. Alison Braddock, Marketing and Business Development Manager hosts this podcast and introduces Jemma Reed, Veterinary Investigation Officer, a new member of the podcast team, having spent many years in a large animal practice in the north of England.
