    In this episode, Lavender Krupp and Ashton Coleman welcome the arrival of spring by sitting down with 2025 graduate Lila Seeger, 7th-grade science teacher Molly Duhamel, and Black Swamp Conservancy Director Rob Krain. Together, they reflect on how the Fox-Shank Living Laboratory program has grown and evolved over its three years of existence. Lila shares how she used the property for her Eagle Scout project, Mrs. Duhamel discusses the changes she has observed through her students’ experiences, and Rob offers insight into the program’s origins and the vision for its future.

  • Iditarod Project: Matt Rohn & OJHS Students

    In this episode, Greylin Durbin interviews OJHS teacher Matt Rohn and a few of his students about the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, one of the most famous and challenging races in the world. This race takes place in the snowy wilderness of Alaska and covers more than 1,000 miles of difficult terrain. Mushers and their teams of sled dogs work together to travel from Anchorage to Nome while facing extreme cold, strong winds, and long days on the trail. Callie Palmer and Lavender Krupp talk to teacher/creator, Mrs. Allison Mills, about this foundational course that weaves together crafting, culture, environmental science, art, and hands-on craftsmanship to explore the fascinating world of textiles.

    The conversation covers how students don’t just learn how to sew in this class - they investigate the science of plant and animal fibers, research real-world careers in fiber arts, and experiment with local plants to create natural dyes. From hand stitching and machine sewing to fiber processing and sustainable textile labs, this course blends innovation with tradition.
