On this episode of The Rick Smith Show, Rick is joined by Bucknell economics professor Matias Vernengo to break down Donald Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos and sketch out what a world dominated by nationalist economics and the dismantling of 20th-century alliances might actually look like for workers and democracy. Later, historian Erik Loomis returns to explore talk of sending troops to Minneapolis and ICE’s constitutional overreach, drawing unsettling parallels to Gilded Age labor crackdowns and Civil Rights Era repression.

On this episode of The Rick Smith Show, Rick Smith looks back at the nightmare that has been Year One of Trump’s second presidency—chaos, cruelty, and the constant distractions working people can’t afford. Rick also breaks down Trump’s latest wild message about Greenland and what it says about the priorities of this administration. Then Rick is joined by Aretha Morgan, a striking pediatric ER nurse at NewYork-Presbyterian and NYSNA board member, to discuss the fight of nearly 15,000 nurses demanding respect, fair contracts, and safe staffing levels. This is what standing up looks like.

I started listening to the Rick Smith Show when I first moved to Pennsylvania and Rick was in the early days of building his show. I frequently say that Rick taught me everything I needed to know about Pennsylvania politics. Since those days, the Rick Smith Show has grown national in scope, bringing unparalleled focus on the stories that matter to working-class Americans. Rick's slogan "the voice of the working-class" couldn't be more on the mark. There is no other show that brings the voices of the labor movement, workers' struggles, and politics and policies critical to working families.

And I challenge you not to laugh in between the serious discussions. Rick is one of a kind.

Simply no one else like Rick
