I’m your host, Mike Konrad, the author of The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Anatomy of a Business Start-Up - From Uncertainty to Unstoppable, available on Amazon as a paperback, e-book, and an audible book, and I’m excited to share real stories that reveal the many paths people take to build their own businesses.

Whether you stumbled into entrepreneurship or you’ve always known it was your calling, this podcast is for you.

Let’s start with what it means to be a reluctant entrepreneur. Many entrepreneurs don’t set out with a grand plan to build a business.

Maybe you worked for a company that didn’t value your vision, and one day you thought, “I could do this myself”, that was my story. Or maybe life pushed you in an unexpected direction—losing a job, facing a personal crisis, or discovering a passion that grew into a business. Reluctant entrepreneurs often find themselves starting a business not because they always dreamed of it, but because it was the best—or only—option available.

And then there are intentional entrepreneurs. These are the people who’ve known from the start that they were meant to create something of their own.

They may have planned meticulously, crafted their vision, and followed a well-laid path to build a business. Intentional entrepreneurs are often seen as risk-takers, those with a drive to innovate, disrupt, and lead in their industries.

But even with all the planning in the world, intentional entrepreneurs face their own share of unexpected challenges, setbacks, and doubts.

On The Reluctant Entrepreneur podcast, we celebrate both types of entrepreneurs—the ones who jump in with both feet, and the ones who tiptoe cautiously into the water.

So, join me as we explore the many ways people navigate the complex and rewarding world of entrepreneurship.

Whether you’re here for inspiration, advice, or just a great story, I hope you find something valuable in every episode of The Reluctant Entrepreneur Podcast.Mike Konrad

  • Why Smart Entrepreneurs Still Struggle With SalesWith John Lester - Episode 73
    Apr 20 2026
If you’re an entrepreneur who loves building, creating, and solving problems but feels uncomfortable when it comes time to sell, you are not alone. For many reluctant entrepreneurs, sales is not just a skill gap. It is an emotional one.

Today’s guest, John Lester, helps entrepreneurs and sales professionals rethink everything they believe about selling.

Through his work at Attitude Selling, John focuses less on scripts, tactics, and pressure, and more on mindset, psychology, and the beliefs that quietly shape how we show up in sales conversations.

In this episode, we talk about why so many entrepreneurs struggle with sales, where that discomfort really comes from, and how shifting your mindset can completely change the way selling feels.

We also dig into John’s own entrepreneurial journey and the beliefs he had to unlearn along the way.
If you have ever avoided a sales call, delayed a follow-up, or felt conflicted about selling something you truly believe in, this conversation is for you.

  • Building a Business You Don't Lose Overnight: Lessons from CybersecurityWith Michele Novack #72
    Apr 17 2026
What if a single email could undo everything you have spent years building? Your biggest business risk is not your competition. It is the one you assume someone else is handling.

Today’s conversation is about a risk most entrepreneurs know exists, but quietly hope never becomes their problem... Cybersecurity.

For many business owners, it feels abstract, technical, or like something that belongs to the IT department. But the reality is this. Cyber risk is not a technology problem. It is a leadership problem.

My guest today, Michele Novack, is the founder of CardinalsByte, where she helps entrepreneurs and small business owners understand cybersecurity through a business and leadership lens. Not firewalls and jargon, but accountability, decision making, and protecting the business you worked so hard to build.

In this episode, we talk about why small businesses are often more vulnerable than they realize, the most dangerous assumptions entrepreneurs make about outsourcing risk, and how ignoring cybersecurity can quietly undo years of hard work overnight.

If you are an entrepreneur who prefers to focus on growth, customers, and culture, this is a conversation you need to hear.

  • What Most Entrepreneurs Miss About Scaling:Lessons From Ivan Vislavskiy - Episode 71
    Apr 15 2026
Most entrepreneurs think scaling is about growth. More clients. More revenue. More visibility. But what they usually discover too late is that scaling does not fix what is broken. It exposes it.

In this episode, we are talking about what most entrepreneurs miss about scaling. Not theory. Not buzzwords. Real lessons learned while building a business that actually lasts.

My guest today is Ivan Vislavskiy, co founder and CEO of Comrade Digital Marketing.
Ivan started the way many entrepreneurs do by selling his own skill. Over time, he faced the same inflection point many founders hit, where working harder no longer works and growth demands something different. Systems. Leadership. Letting go.

In this conversation, we talk candidly about the shift from operator to owner, the mistakes founders repeat when trying to scale, why growth often amplifies problems instead of solving them, and what it really takes to build a business that does not depend entirely on you.

If you are great at what you do, but feel hesitant about growth because you do not want to lose control, quality, or yourself in the process, this episode is for you.
