In part 14 of this continuing series, Phil teaches that the measure of faith is shown by what it accomplishes, and that faith, hope, and desire work together in a divine cycle. Drawing from Moroni 7 and Moroni 10, Phil explains that belief and trust in Jesus Christ generate hope, and hope gives rise to stronger faith. A sincere heart and real intent, meaning we are willing to accept whatever answer the Lord gives will create the desire that leads to the exercise of powerful faith. Through this process, and by the power of the Holy Ghost, Father reveals truth and corrects our conclusions as we willingly align our will with Him.

Phil teaches that hope through the Atonement is only possible when we offer the sacrifice of a broken heart and contrite spirit (Moroni 7). Examples from scripture show how humility transforms weakness into strength (Ether 12), including Enoch, who received the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, overcame his weakness in speech, and exercised a greater faith seeing through the veil with an “eye of faith” (Moses 6; Ether 12:19). Phil also explains the pattern of receiving higher priesthood authority, noting the First and Second Orders of the Melchizedek Priesthood bestowed upon prophets such as Enoch, Moses, and Nephi by the voice of the Father (Moses 6, Moses 1 & 3 Nephi 11).

Phil highlights that throughout scripture; Helaman 5, Alma 14, 3 Nephi 19, Acts 2, disciples of Christ exercise exceedingly strong faith in Jesus Christ, resulting in the reception of the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, miracles, and other transformative spiritual experiences. He reminds us that revelation is never casual; it requires obedience, sacrifice, and preparation. Miracles have not ceased (Moroni 7:36–39), and the same power held by ancient servants of God is available to all who exercise great faith, hope, and trust in Christ.

Phil concludes that the Lord continues to call “other servants” (JST Matthew 21; D&C 101, 112, 103), and that Joseph Smith stands as the prophesied servant raised up in the last days. The path remains the same: to seek Christ by revelation, exercise mighty faith, receive the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, and press forward keeping all of Christ’s commandments until we enter the rest of the Lord.

In part 12 of this continuing series, Phil teaches that Jesus Christ has already paid the full price of redemption so we can enter into a covenant relationship with Him. Phil explains that nothing we do can add to Christ’s atonement; redemption is a gift, yet salvation unfolds in levels as we respond to Him. The first level is unconditional—every soul, except the sons of perdition, will receive a gift of resurrection called eternal lives through Christ’s victory. The second level is conditional forgiveness, made possible because Christ satisfied the demands of justice. This forgiveness is granted only to those who repent on God’s terms: first by confessing sins, seeking forgiveness, and making restitution, and then at a higher level by preparing for baptism through revelation, forgiving others, and doing all the Father requires to be forgiven of their sins, thereby receiving the Spirit of Christ unto the remission of sins (D&C 20:37).

Phil teaches that the third level of forgiveness comes through the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost when the disciple offers a broken heart and contrite spirit. Baptism of water is the legal entry into the covenant, but the inward requirements must be revealed personally. When these requirements are met, Christ pleads our case before the Father and adopts us as His sons and daughters, granting an increased portion of His light (3 Nephi 19). The fourth level is entering into the rest of the Lord, where Christ again intercedes on our behalf and the Father grants the promise of Eternal Life, allowing us to “know” Him. (D&C 45, John 17, and D&C 93).

Phil concludes by teaching that the authority of the full Melchizedek Baptism of water, fire, and the Holy Ghost has been restored in our day by angelic ordination and is available to those who belong to the Doctrine of Christ Group. He invites listeners to study D&C 20:37, prepare for Melchizedek Baptism, seek the baptism of fire & Holy Ghost, and actively receive instruction through personal revelation being instructed in all things (2 Nephi 31). To live carnally minded is death, but to live spiritually minded is life and peace; through seeking Christ by revelation, we may become His adopted sons and daughters and then birthright sons and daughter (Romans 8).

In part 11 of this continuing series, Phil explores the apostles’ request to have their faith increased (Luke 17). Miracles are only wrought by those who first believe in Christ (Ether 12). Belief in the Son of God is to act in faith and receive the new and everlasting covenant of baptism (3 Nephi 9).

Phil explains the meaning of the forbidden fruit, the fruit of the tree of life, and the gates that separate each ascension level (2 Nephi 2). He describes the source of good and evil and the results that follow as we give heed to each source (Moroni 7). He outlines that as we progress in our knowledge of Christ, we will no longer receive truth line upon line but rather as a download of information (2 Nephi 28). Phil teaches that all people have a conscience and a moral witness by virtue of the light of Christ, which is written in the hearts of men and women (Romans 2). He reviews the relationship between God and eternal laws, as well as the conditions of repentance and forgiveness (Alma 42). Phil further teaches that God’s plan for men and women, through the resurrection, is to prepare a people who qualify to receive an inheritance in New Jerusalem (2 Nephi 2). In the end, all people receive that which they desire; everyone’s opportunity to choose is equal, and Christ will plead our case before the Father (Alma 41). He continues by explaining that without opposition there is no meaningful difference between good and evil (2 Nephi 2). The light of Christ is in all things; it is the power by which matter is organized and the power by which men and women can be changed from a fallen state to a godly state (D&C 88).

Phil concludes that our intelligences are eternal and were with God from the beginning. As we come unto God through mortality, our character can be perfected through the exercise of our will to choose Christ, eventually becoming sons and daughters of God (D&C 93). Men and women are free to choose liberty and eternal life or captivity and death (2 Nephi 2). Nephi rejoices in the grace, justice, power, and mercy of God’s eternal plan (2 Nephi 11). Nephi also teaches so that we may know that it is only in the name of Christ that we can receive a remission of our sins (2 Nephi 25). Phil explains that men and women who did not have sufficient time to ascend or to receive the Melchizedek baptism will have the opportunity to return during the Millennium (1 Corinthians 15). Christ becomes the end of the law only for those who offer up their sacrifice of a broken heart and a contrite spirit and receive the baptism of fire and Holy Ghost (2 Nephi 2).

In part 10 of this continuing series, Phil explains what it means for Nephi to have charity for both Jew and Gentile (2 Nephi 33). He teaches that the only way to be redeemed in the fullest sense of the word is to become the family of Christ (3 Nephi 9). Phil also discusses Nephi’s end-time prophecy that much of the gospel will be brought forward to the Gentiles in a form that is pure and precious (1 Nephi 13). He reviews the teaching that “men are, that they might have joy,” meaning to receive the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost (2 Nephi 2), and he notes that Lehi is “filled with exceedingly great joy” as a result of partaking of the fruit of the tree (1 Nephi 8).

Phil further reviews Christ’s example of keeping all the Father’s commandments (2 Nephi 31) and emphasizes that we must diligently seek Christ (1 Nephi 10; Alma 32). He explains that Lehi heard the words of the prophets, cried out unto God, and received the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost (1 Nephi 1). Nephi likewise received the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost (1 Nephi 2), later receiving the Second Comforter and a vision spanning from Christ’s birth to the end of the world (1 Nephi 11). Nephi acknowledges his father’s baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost and identifies this as a pattern established from the beginning (1 Nephi 10). Adam enters into the new and everlasting covenant, receiving baptism by water, fire, and the Holy Ghost (Moses 6).

Jesus Christ is symbolized by the fountain of living water and the tree in Lehi’s vision and represents the love of God (1 Nephi 11). God promises that all who diligently seek Christ will receive the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost and eternal life (2 Nephi 31).

    Jan 31 2026

In part 9 of this continuing series, Phil covers the faith of a mustard seed (Luke 17), what it means to believe in the Son of God (Ether 12), how to enter into Christ’s Millennial reign (2 Nephi 2), and becoming an adopted and then birthright son or daughter of Christ (3 Nephi 11). Phil reads about deliverance from bondage and qualifying for the end-time exodus (D&C 103), the coming forth of the testimony of the laborers in the last kingdom, followed by the testimony of prophesied destruction (D&C 88), the coming forth of “other books” of scripture to the convincing of the Gentiles, remnant of Jacob, and the Jews of the fullness of the gospel (JST Genesis 50 and 1 Nephi 13). Phil closes with defining the doctrine of Christ (2 Nephi 31), teaching that to be carnally minded is death and to be spiritually minded is life eternal, that Christ is the keeper of the gate and employeth no servant there (2 Nephi 9), and urging listeners to hearken to Christ, who is the advocate with the Father (D&C 45).

In part 8 of this continuing series, Phil opens the scriptures to deepen our understanding of planting the seed of faith, nourishing it as it grows, and exercising faith to partake of the fruit of the tree it produces (Alma 32). Phil teaches about the Light of Christ and its influence throughout the universe (D&C 88), the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost received by the twelve disciples, and King Benjamin’s people. He explains by what power the prophets of old performed mighty miracles, using the story of the Exodus with Moses and the children of Israel from Egypt. Phil reviews Isaiah’s prophecy of the end-time servant (Isaiah 57), Nephi’s experiences with his elder brothers, Laman and Lemuel (1 Nephi 17), the Lord’s instruction to the men ordained to the Patriarchal Order at the Isaac Morley Farm (D&C 88), and Enoch’s ascension to the heavenly mountain (Moses 7). He discusses our responsibility to believe in Christ through the exercise of faith before a miracle comes.
