When my daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), an incurable autoimmune disease, at just 22 months, I didn’t know where to turn. So I started running. I entered a charity race to raise money for a cure, and to try and outrun the fear of what her future might hold.
At the time, I didn’t even know kids could get arthritis. Fast forward 18 years, and we’ve come a long way, but heartbreakingly, most people still don’t know. A recent Ipsos poll shows that only one in five Canadians are aware that arthritis can affect children.
