“Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” (Matthew 11:3, NIV)

This week is the third Sunday of Advent focussing on the promise of Joy. This sermon explores John the Baptist’s question from prison to Jesus: “Are you the One?” and how Jesus answers our doubts with the transforming evidence of his kingdom already breaking into the world. We will reflect on how joy and sorrow mingle in the Christian life, especially when God doesn’t meet our expectations, and how Jesus invites us into a deeper, anchored joy grounded in who he truly is.

This week is the second Sunday of Advent focussing on the promise that Jesus is the Prince of Peace. The sermon will focus on the passage from Isaiah, which proclaims Jesus as the promised shoot from Jesse’s stump—the Spirit-filled King who brings justice, peace, and restoration. The focus is on hope rising out of ruins, and on Christ’s power to create life where we see only devastation.
