With everything happening in the news regarding U.S.-Venezuela relations, I wanted to clear the air on one of the most misunderstood pieces of foreign policy in history: The Monroe Doctrine.

Is the U.S. just a "big bully" in the neighborhood, or has the original intent of James Monroe been lost to time? We’re diving into the 1820s, a time when the U.S. had no real Navy and was actually standing in solidarity with newly independent Latin American nations against European royals.
