  • There’s a problem with True Crime. Creators idolize perpetrators, shame victims, or are completely checked out on cases while they focus on other things. However, we can’t forget there are victims who lost their lives and families who are still grieving to this day. Furthermore, many True Crime outlets spend their time focusing on themselves or rambling, instead of getting right to the facts of the case. We hear you, this is frustrating. The Misery Machine focuses on cases the media fails to give proper attention to. We want to help give those a voice that never got to have one, to begin with. We also cover aspects of cases that other podcasts might look the other way on, and the way that these cases impact their communities for generations. It’s not enough to simply cover a case, our platform must be used to make a difference.

    This week, Drewby and Yergy head back to Albuquerque to discuss the case of Omaree Varela, a beautiful little boy who was abused by both his mother, Synthia Varela, and his stepfather, Steve Casaus - who was a violent criminal. Things came to a head on December 27th, 2013, when Synthia became so upset with Omaree that she literally kicked him to death. On March 24th, 2016, Shaylyn was found to be missing from the bed located in the family's living room. Kyler Parker, an acquaintance of the Ammerman family, was arrested and soon confessed to raping and murdering the toddler before discarding her body in a wooded area. Great content & Fun hosts!

I've just started but I'm hooked! they talk a liiiiiittle fast but the stories are great and the hosts have fun banter and actual emotion on the cases. It's inspiring!

Intriguingly informative!!

Love this podcast while I'm at work! Both narrators have great voices for long term listening, and thorough investigations on each topic. Discovered via YouTube, and highly recommend that as well. (Plus the YT channel has pics of their cat...)
