  • POWER OF THE WORD NIGGA
    Aug 23 2022

WAS SAID WITHOUT THINKING. PAINTING AN ENTIRE RACE WITH A SINGLE WORD. BUT IT WASN’T ALWAYS A SLUR. ORIGINALLY THE LATIN NIGER JUST MENT BLACK. BUT AT THE DAWN OF AMERICA NIGER BECAME NEGAR TO DESCRIBE SOME OF THE FIRST SHIPMENTS OF AFRICAN SLAVES. AND WITH SLAVERY THE WORD WAS CONTORTED TO ITS CURRENT, DARK, DEGRADING HATEFUL INSULT FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS. IT OVER TIME IT HAS APPEARED IN EVERYTHING FROM UGLY PROPOGANDA, TO CARTOONS, TO NURSERY RHYMES. ENNI MINNI MYNI MO DID NOT ALWAYS END WITH CATCH A TIGER BY THE TOE.

IT was tossed about casually in movies WELL INTO THE 20TH CENTURY. PART OF A WAY OF LIFE BUT SOMETIMES TO RAISE CONCIOUNESS. DURING THE CIVIL RIGHTS AREA THE STIGMA CAME TO A HEAD. IN THE 1970S EMERGED A WILLINGNESS TO EXPLORE THE IMPACT OF THE WORD AND EVEN STARIZE IT.

A History of Black Stereotypes Onscreen
The grotesque racist caricatures that were used to justify slavery and the systemic mistreatment of black people found their way into our earliest blockbuster movies, and they remained popular onscreen for decades. In large part, this is because—while black characters have always been a part of American films—black filmmakers and performers tended to be excluded from their creation. If we look closer, many caricatures like the Mammy, Uncle Tom, Sapphire, Jezebel, and Magical Negro have persevered, in some form, to this day across our modern films and TV. Here’s our Take on the history of black stereotypes on screen and how they still influence our society—more than you might think. If you like this video, subscribe to our channel

    Aug 9 2022

As Democrats enter an already challenging midterm election, they face a new challenge: they’re losing support among Black voters. Since the 2020 election, President Biden’s support among Black voters has dropped more than 20 percent. Some voters say they went to bat for the Biden-Harris ticket, but the administration hasn’t gone to bat for them. But the head of the Democratic National Committee says the White House has many accomplishments to point to.
