Today's guest on The Lake Anna Podcast is John Odenkirk. John is a Fisheries Biologist with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), where he has been employed for almost 25 years. Here at Lake Anna, John's job is to maintain, monitor, and improve the fisheries of Lake Anna. During our interesting conversation, John discussed why the fish population and fishing continues to be so great at Lake Anna, especially with respect to the largemouth bass and striper populations. We discussed the world-record sized Channel Catfish that John and his colleagues pulled out of Lake Anna (in a net), and safely returned to the deep waters near dike 3 of Lake Anna. John also discussed the two dozen different fish species at Lake Anna, how he surveys and monitors certain species throughout the year, electrofishing, gill-netting, fish stocking at Lake Anna, and steps he takes to improve the underwater environment in which the fish live. John also discussed the water vegetation at Lake Anna, and the positive impacts it has on the fish population, as well as other aspects of Lake Anna.
