Spoiler alert: this week we’re analyzing the Twilight Zone episode “The Odyssey of Flight 33” Flight 33 is a typical commercial plane with a typical crew and set of passenger. However, they are about to experience something wholly untypical. They have found themselves in some kind of jet stream, one that this veteran crew has never experienced before. And suddenly, they find themselves in a precarious situation, feeling out of sorts and also out of time. On this episode of KOI: A Twilight Zone Show, we’re going to try and see if learning some of the technical jargon related to flying can help us enjoy the episode even more; we’ll try and understand the theory of time that is being espoused here; and I’ll reveal my moment of awe, a hard look at the decision that is made by the people in this episode and they might serve as a source of strength for our own views on life today. Making matters even worse, waiting for her at the end of her nightmare is a startling woman who always tells her, “room for one more, honey.” Is there more to this nightmare than meets the eye? Perhaps. However, neither Liz’ agent nor her doctor seem prepared to believe that fantasy is somehow crossing over in reality. But, all of that changes when Liz is at the airport and something truly unbelievable, and tragic, occurs. In this KOI episode, we’re going to see if there is a tale of triumph here mixed in with the horror; we’ll attempt to figure out what is going on with the doctor in this episode; and I’ll reveal my moment of awe, a look at the fantastic–and sometimes not so fantastic–world of dreams. Poole, played by actor Dick York, on a day just like any other, casually flips a quarter into the cashbox of the local newspaper man so that he can read all about the news of the day. However, on this day, Mr. Poole will get a lot more for his money. It just so happens that the quarter lands on its edge and remains standing, quite the statistical phenomenon. But, that’s not the most unbelievable thing that will happen to Hector today.
