On February 2, 1980, in the Santa Fe, New Mexico penitentiary, 1,156 inmates began one of the most violent prison riots in U.S. history. During this 36 hour riot, inmates took 12 officers as hostages and murdered 33 inmates, many of them being tortured to death. Fair warning, this episode is rated R.
