  • In this episode of the Free Walking Tour Salzburg Podcast, I will tell you the history of the Landmark of Salzburg. The history of the Hohensalzburg fortress is inevitably linked with the history of the city of Salzburg. During the investiture controversy in 1077, the archbishops of Salzburg started building fortifications but continued to add new features for 600 years. It is by far my favorite sight in Salzburg, mostly because of the view, and I recommend it on each of my Salzburg Free Walking Tours. If you only pay for one sight, make it the Hohensalzburg Fortress!
