This is part 1 of our series discussing what is often called the Franklin Scandal or the Franklin Cover-Up. Our discussion is partially based on two books, The Franklin Cover-Up by John DeCamp and The Franklin Scandal by Nicholas Bryant.

In 1988, the Franklin Community Federal Credit Union, located in Omaha, NE, was raided by federal banking officials. An estimated $34-$40,000,000 had been embezzled by its manager, Lawrence King. The investigation into King took a disgusting turn. Reports were turned over to the Nebraska Legislature implicating King in a child trafficking ring that would span coast to coast. Over the next few weeks, we will discuss and attempt to unravel the series of disturbing events that were alleged to have taken place.
