  • Episode 501 - From Planes to Parkruns: Alexis Oosterhoff’s Ultra Running Life
    Jul 14 2025

From phosphate dust in Nauru to the trails of Western Australia—and even a 200-miler past Stonehenge—Alexis Oosterhoff has taken the scenic (and slightly insane) route into ultra running.

In this episode, Alexis shares: •How a casual desire to run a marathon at 40 was nearly derailed by a cancer diagnosis •Why he traded in a private plane for a pair of trail shoes •His love of raw, unmarked ultra races (hello, GPX-only navigation and fields full of barking farm dogs) •What drives him to run events like an 18-day stage race in Spain and the 24-4-ME Challenge to raise awareness for ME/CFS •His deep connection to the WA running community—and his take on what really makes someone a runner

Plus: tips for beginners, the importance of volunteering, and why Alexis believes trail running makes us all better humans.

💬 “For me, running’s not about beating others—it’s about being better than I was yesterday.”

  • Episode 500 - MM 178 - Do a task with your non-dominant hand
    Jul 9 2025

This week’s mindful moment adds a playful twist: do a task with your non-dominant hand. Whether it’s stirring your tea, brushing your teeth, or opening a jar, switching hands interrupts your routine and demands your full attention. It feels awkward—maybe even a little clumsy—and that’s the point.

You have to slow down, concentrate, and notice every small movement. This simple shift wakes up your brain, grounds you in the present, and turns an ordinary task into a real-time mindfulness practice. Embrace the messiness and see what you learn—not just physically, but mentally too.

Spend just five minutes with this practice, and see how it can bring calm and clarity to your day.

  • Episode 499 - Juliet King – Running Far, Dreaming Big, and Blazing Her Own Trail at 15
    Jul 7 2025

This week’s guest is 15-year-old Juliet King, and trust me—this is one episode that’ll leave you speechless, smiling, and maybe a little bit teary.

Juliet started running at the age of four alongside her mum and hasn’t looked back. Despite a hip condition that kept her out of team sports, Juliet found freedom and purpose on the trails. She ran her first ultra at 10 years old, finished the grueling Margaret River 80k at 11, and hasn’t stopped chasing finish lines since.

In this episode, you’ll hear: 👟 How Juliet went from running with her mum to pacing her in 100+km events 🥇 The grit it took to finish her first ultra and the mental battles she fought through 🏞️ Why the Larapinta Trail Stage Race at 14 was her favourite (and the easiest!) 🏀 How she’s now balancing competitive basketball with her running roots 🎯 Why her goals include events like Tarawera—even if she has to wait until she’s 18 🧠 What she’s learned about mindset, pacing, and supporting the people she runs with

Juliet’s Running Wisdom: ✅ Break big runs into small sections—it’s easier that way ✅ You don’t have to go fast to go far ✅ Music, inside jokes, and a good head torch can fix just about anything

This is a story of resilience, joy, and what’s possible when you don’t let age—or anything else—limit your dreams. Juliet’s voice is clear, kind, and quietly powerful. We’re lucky to have runners like her shaping the future of our sport.
