Our intrepid hosts begin at the beginning with The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester which won the first Hugo award in 1953. This Sci-Fi police procedural set in New York City follows Ben Reich, excessively rich owner of Monarch Utilities and Resources, as he finds himself in a position where he must kill his competitor, Craye D'Courtney, spurred on by his disturbing dreams of The Man With No Face. The only problem? There hasn't been a premeditated murder in the past 70 years. Why? The world is full of telepaths, Espers, that now work in every industry and fill every part of society and if any of them hear his murderous thoughts he will be reported and dealt with. Reich must figure out a way to keep his intentions a secret and hide the evidence or else face Demolition. Join the hosts, Arthur, Christina, and David as they dissect and discuss this intriguing story and explore what it says about the fragility and potentials of the human mind and psyche.
