  • 310 - Let the Right One In (2008) Review
    Apr 7 2026

Oskar, a young, bullied boy, forms a friendship with his new neighbor Eli, a young girl, who holds the secret of needing to consume blood.

Let the Right One In is a Swedish vampire, coming-of-age film based off the novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist of the same name. This movie explores the challenges of navigating bullying, growing up, and finding friendship among the oddest of circumstances. While the movie deeply explores different character emotions, it has a bleak tone and cold atmosphere that really set the backdrop for what is a unique and challenging time in the lives of main characters, Oskar and Eli. The film has several absolutely jaw-dropping scenes and crazy twists, but at its core, it's a wholesome film of acceptance. Watch the movie and catch our review.

  • 309 - The Hole in the Ground (2019) Review
    Mar 30 2026

A single mother adjusts to living in rural Ireland with her son, who starts to exhibit strange behavior that she believes is connected to a large hole in the middle of the forest behind their house.

The Hole in the Ground is the last movie in Staring into Holes month and was the movie that inspired the theme. While the story simply revolves around a mother's discovery of a mysterious hole in the ground and its potential effects on her son, there's deeper themes at play as she works to navigate the relationship with her son who's changing. As the single mother discovers that her neighbor's son also exhibited similar behavior changes as her son, she beings to suspect that her son may not actually be her son. Watch the movie and catch our review.

  • 308 - Silent House (2011) Review
    Mar 23 2026

A young girl finds herself trapped in her family's lake house while they're renovating and is haunted by a mysterious invader.

In the fourth week of Staring into Holes month, we discuss Silent House, a psychological horror movie featuring Elizabeth Olsen in her first starring role. While this movie takes on the style of a continuous shot, it relies on acting and character developing to guide the narrative. Even though Olsen's performance is serviceable, there isn't enough happening in the movie to keep up the investment. The twist of the movie is highly predictable, especially if you've seen psychological horror films in the past, and profound character actions towards the end don't have the proper buildup. We've been critical of this movie in the past and there are too many holes references to count to leave it out of Staring into Holes month. Watch the movie and catch our review.
