February 7, 2026: As for the game, we’re pretty sure Jeremy fears will drift into a coma for a few days after playing 42 1/2 minutes. But he was sensational especially down the stretch where he scored 9 points in overtime. MSU of course, trailed at half by 4 and then quickly found themselves down 9. But they kept following their game plan and battled back to keep it within one or two possessions the entire second half. Even briefly taking the lead.

Then at the end of regulation they went up two on a huge 3 from Kur Teng after a big Kohler offensive board off a Teng miss. But two huge fouls shots by Davis with one second sent us to OT. And there MSU just sort of took over. Or more specifically, Jeremy Fears did. And MSU went up 6 with one minute to go and held on for the 85-82 win to keep their slim Big Ten title hopes alive.

February 5, 2026: Michigan State is coming off their first back to back losses of the season and returns home to meet the red hot Illini. Illinois just finished tearing apart their intrastate foe, Northwestern, by 40 in Champaign and are looking for another scalp. MSU’s Big Ten title hopes are on life support and this is a game that they absolutely need.

Adding intrigue to this game is the lineup situation for MSU. As of the recording, we did not have an injury status for Divine Ugochukwu but our expectation is that he is out for at least this game if not more. On top of that, Jeremy Fears is embroiled in controversy about his flagrant foul last night and a sudden reputation as a dirty player that began with Dusty May’s press conference where he called out Fears. Now can Fears navigate his way to playing hard without giving the refs a reason to T him up and can MSU survive the minutes that he will be forced to rest with second backup point guard Denham Wojcik?
