His work is deeply informed by his own history—his mother’s family, the Al-Kilani, lived in Haifa in 1948, and his father’s side, the al-Kilanis, hail from Nablus, Iraq, and ultimately Mecca. His lineage traces back to Abdelkader al-Kilani, a prominent figure in Sunni Islam and Sufism, and to Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
