In the late 1970s, people began disappearing in Argentina.During what became known as the “Dirty War,” a military junta seized control of the country and launched a brutal campaign against anyone suspected of dissent.

From 1976 to 1983, an estimated 10,000–30,000 people were abducted, tortured, and killed in a shadowy state-sponsored operation of terror. They were called los desaparecidos — the disappeared.

In this episode, we dive into the rise of the dictatorship under General Jorge Rafael Videla We explore how fear gripped a nation as the leaders saw it's own people as it's enemies.

But things began to turn around.

We also examine the courage of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, a group of women who refused to stop seeking justice.
