  • From Backyard Beekeeper to Global Innovator: Flow Hive's Journey with Cedar Anderson
    Oct 28 2025
Cedar Anderson is an inventor, entrepreneur, and third-generation beekeeper from New South Wales, Australia. Growing up in an off-grid, sustainability-focused community, he developed an early curiosity for nature and innovation, beginning beekeeping at just six years old. Frustrated with the traditional honey-harvesting process, which was messy, time-consuming, and stressful for bees, Cedar spent about a decade experimenting with his father, Stuart Anderson, to create a better system. Their efforts led to the invention of the Flow Hive, a groundbreaking honey-extraction technology that allows honey to flow directly from the hive without disturbing the bees. When they launched the Flow Hive on a crowdfunding platform in 2015, their campaign became one of the most successful in history, raising millions of dollars from an initial goal of around US$70,000 and attracting tens of thousands of orders from over 100 countries. Today, Cedar continues to promote sustainable beekeeping through innovation, education, and community building, helping make beekeeping more accessible and environmentally friendly for people around the world.
