  • 109. The Black Dahlia with Larry Harnisch
    Nov 5 2025

Larry Harnisch, retired Los Angeles Times reporter and a leading subject-matter expert on the Black Dahlia case, joins the show to discuss his decades-long research into the 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short, detailing his investigative approach and efforts to separate fact from myth. We also examine retired FBI profiler John Douglas’s behavioral analysis, which aligns closely with the suspect Larry finds most plausible. We also discuss where Larry’s offender assessment diverges from the one we presented on The Consult.

    Oct 29 2025

In this episode, Dr. Paige Wilcoxson joins the show to discuss what true crime often gets wrong about forensic psychology. Dr. Wilcoxson worked as a clinical and forensic psychologist, and her experience spans training in forensic hospitals, working in high-and maximum-security prisons, and serving as a professor in both the U.S. and the U.K. While working on her doctorate, she spent time in the FBI’s BAU, where she contributed to the serial homicide research project. Dr. Wilcoxson now dedicates her career to work in the non-profit sector.

I have followed this series from the beginning. Hearing from real FBI agents on real cases, some even unsolved, is riveting! I highly recommend starting with Profiling Concepts so you get a feel for how to look at the cases. Also, don’t miss the Mark Twitchell SK Confessions one. The reading of the killer’s diary is captivating. Really a nice add to the series. Can’t wait for the next one.

Hearing from several FBI profilers on real cases is very interesting. Highly recommend!

It is an amazing behind the scenes process of how cases are analyzed. Small details matter and the analysis makes you think of true crime in a whole new way! My absolute favorite podcast!

Gripping insight

To get inside a crime from the profilers that worked the case before it was solved. I'm so glad that the prosecutors introduced me to your podcast.

Great podcast
