Hello and welcome to THE CHILD AND ITS ENEMIES, a podcast for and about queer and neurodivergent kids and teens living out anarchy and youth liberation.

Here at THE CHILD AND ITS ENEMIES we believe that youth autonomy is not only crucial to queer and trans liberation, but to anarchy itself. Governance is inherently based on projecting linear narratives of time and Development and gender onto our necessarily asynchronous and atemporal queer lives, and kids, teens, and everyone else affected by anti-child ageism are at the center of this form of oppression.

Our goal with the podcast is to create a space by and for kids and teens that challenges all forms of control and inspires us to create neuroqueer, feral, ageless networks of care.

I'm your host, mk zariel. My pronouns are they/them, I'm fifteen years old, and I'm the youth correspondent at the Anarchist Review of Books, author of the blog Debate Me Bruh, and organizer of some all-ages queer spaces in my city and online.

mk: Hello and welcome to The Child and Its Enemies, a podcast about queer and neurodivergent kids living out anarchy and youth liberation here at the Child and its enemies. We believe that youth autonomy is not only crucial to queer and trans liberation, but to anarchy itself. Governance is inherently based on projecting linear narratives of time and development and gender onto our necessarily asynchronous and atemporal.

Queer lives and youth and teams are at the center of this form of oppression. Our goal with the podcast is to create a space by and for youth that challenges all forms of control and inspires us to create feared, feral, ageless networks of care. I'm your host MK Zariel. I'm 16 years old and I'm a French masculine poet theater artist and insurrectionary anarchist in the Great Lakes region.

With me today is anarchist visual artist and mutual aid organizer shining oak.

Oak: Hey, mk, it's great to be here. Thank you for welcoming onto your show. It's so important to have representation and networks for queer youth. I wish I knew of these kinds of resources when I was your age. I feel really honored to be here.

I'm a 22-year-old multimedia artist and aspiring ecologist and educator. I've lived and worked in Atlanta or Muskogee Creek territory most of my life. But I'm currently based in Ireland. I dabble in different media, but my favorite is Relief Print. I center queer liberation in my art, and I also do environmental and food justice work in my personal life.

With me today is Tsela Barr, an organizer with the Madison, Wisconsin chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace.

Tsela: Thanks for having me on your podcast. I guess I’ll start with my, my background and how I came to my activism.

I’ve been a Palestine solidarity activist since the mid eighties, so since roughly my early twenties I was raised in a pretty typical Jewish household in the DC area. And I went to services regularly at a synagogue. And my parents put me and my siblings in a Hebrew school...

"I could not even pretend to be neurotypical if I tried. So the neurodivergent community is very important to me. My fellow neurodivergents are my kin and my comrades, and we live anarchy day in and day out, even if we don't realize it. I think most of us would have a harder time trying to shove ourselves into capitalistic, neurotypical boxes than to let ourselves be free, if we all thought about it and did the work necessary to liberate ourselves and each other."
