  • E58: A useless Prophet, a good son, & the "mother wound"

Have you ever been told you have a "Father Wound" or "Mother Wound"? Perhaps in college ministry? I know I was. And I figured out I had both... once I forgave my Dad of course. But are we driving this home too hard? Are we burning bridges, preaching on deaf ears, debating theology... at home?

Jesus had a few words about that sorta thing. He said it was near impossible! But he also said to Honor your Father and Mother. How do we do that when they aren't Christians? How do we do that if they keep hovering, correcting, pushing for likemindedness?

Join me as I talk with my amazing mom, Grace, about the pitfalls we struggle with as humans beings, seeking for spiritual unity and not finding it. This may make you uncomfortable and that's ok. My mom and I do not believe the same things, and I do not agree with everything she said on my show. But she's my mom. And she has so much to offer! Do you struggle with controlling your parents also? Take a walk with me and see if we can find some peace in your broken relationships.

Yup, I did it. I know I know. I'm asking for an S-storm! But I truly felt it needed to be done. I wanted to articulate that we are not push-overs, but we're also not jerks for protecting our children. I hope you can relate to the struggle of knowing when to speak up. When do we say, "enough is enough", and how do we say it?

"Aslan" [from the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis]

Photo credits, unknown from a Colorado protest.

Peter Dinklage - Short ("little person") actor from Elf

    Verses:

John 13:35 - love one another

    Rom. 1 - "unnatural"

Eph. 6 - spiritual forces of darkness

1 Peter 5:8 - Satan prowls around like a lion (more like Scar than Mufasa)

Eph. 1:13-14 - equally sealed by Jesus blood

Prov. 4:14-15 - there's a standard, even if Grace covers our failures of it!

Malachi 2:15 - God desires Godly offsping

Gen. 11:1-9 - Tower of Babel

Acts 2 - Pentacost (my proof of no skin color in Christ)

Gen. 1:27 & 2:24 - creation story, male and female

Matt. 19:4-6 & Mark 10:6-9 - Jesus not only says marriage is between one man and one woman (so also no to Polygamy), but says, man and woman become one flesh. Would he not say any two grown adults who love each other can become one flesh if He felt that way? Seems logical.

Mark 7:21-22 & Matt 15:19 - These are Jesus' words, specifically listing sins.

Rev. 3:16 - "be hot or cold, but lukewarm I spit you out of My mouth."

1 Cor. 5:11 - "don't eat with" or "associate with" fake christians!

This one is wild! I get to share how I met my best bud, Jerit, our time in drugs and jail, and how he tried to convert me to be a Jehovah's Witness, but he got saved instead! Buckle up! This is a fun one...
