  • Joanne Harris and the Literary Beauty of Chocolat
    Sep 18 2025
Joanne Harris is the writer of the “Chocolat" series, which began with the famous Chocolat (also made into a movie with Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp) which spawned three sequels all continuing the story of the mysterious, talented and independent Vianne and her daughters as they struggle to find their place in the world. But in her newest contribution to the series, Vianne, she writes beautifully of Vianne’s prequel story. What brought Vianne to her love of chocolate and what spawns her to keep traveling the world, untethered and without roots? This is the story of her beginnings and her beginnings as the literary chocolatier that we have come to know and love. We also talk to an amazing bookstore that is over a century old, Andover Bookstore in Andover, Massachusetts. Tune in and find out how a bookstore can still be great…even after 100 years. One of my favorite authors and I adore the Thursday Murder Club series. Kate, you nearly lost me with your suggestion of Tom Cruise for the movie version. Uncharacteristically wrong. Check out the Facebook groups which are casting the movie!

Podcast is almost better than the books!

Kate & Charlie Gibson talk about books and interview a wide range of authors, many you’ll know, several you’ll be thrilled to learn about. So fun and informative. Recently they visited the Library of Congress and that was a fascinating listen. You know Charlie from Good Morning America (etc) and you’ll be delighted by his daughter Kate who is whip smart and funny.

Book lovers will love this, and less avid readers will be motivated to pick up a book

I can't say enough good things about this podcast - it's interesting and helpful and insightful. Kate and Charlie ask for suggestions for how to make the podcast better, and I wouldn't change a thing! I've recommended it quite a few times, but always with the warning - don't listen unless you want to greatly expand your "want to read" list! I never would have found "This is Happiness" without Kate and Charlie, and it was my favorite book (of the 60) that I read last year. I recommended the book to one of my book clubs (yes I'm in 2), and never has a book been more universally loved. Thank you for expanding MY reading horizons! Keep up the awesome work, and thank you for all that you do to make this podcast happen!
