  • Abir Mukherjee and the Beauty of Historical Mysteries
    Dec 11 2025
Abir Mukherjee was a revelation to us, even if he is already an international bestseller. The Burning Grounds, the sixth of the Wyndham and Banerjee mystery series will keep readers guessing while dazzling them with terrific writing. His series takes place during turn of the century in Imperialist India, and he exposes the good, bad and ugly, from both a British and native perspective. He knocked us out, and we bet his Wyndham and Banerjee series will knock out our listeners too. Join us! • J. Ryan Stradal SELLS and A Bookstore with a Mission
    Dec 4 2025
We are so pleased that our Writer in Residence, J. Ryan Stradal, has sold his newest to Atria Publishing. He is here this week to tell us how he did it, and how Atria became his new home (and it apparently involved an auction). We are also joined by the husband and wife team behind Bound and Vine, a brand new bookstore in Fayetteville, North Carolina that brings military families together to share ideas and share community. • Megha Majumdar and Moral Ambiguity
    Nov 27 2025
Megha Majumdar was on the short list for the National Book Award, and we were rooting hard for her to win. She may not have won THIS year, but her talent and her world building skills had us clamoring for more, so we have no doubt you will see her name on the list again. A Guardian and a Thief is a novel that asks (and not didactically) what you would do, what morals would you compromise, to survive. What would you do to ensure your children survive? We talk to Megha and then discuss a new unique Chicagoland Independent Bookseller holiday tradition with a local organizer. Join us and Happy Thanksgiving. I have always been a big reader & your podcasts are so interesting & inspiring. I love the end when you interview a local bookstore. We have to support local bookstores.

One of my favorite authors and I adore the Thursday Murder Club series. Kate, you nearly lost me with your suggestion of Tom Cruise for the movie version. Uncharacteristically wrong. Check out the Facebook groups which are casting the movie!

Podcast is almost better than the books!

Kate & Charlie Gibson talk about books and interview a wide range of authors, many you’ll know, several you’ll be thrilled to learn about. So fun and informative. Recently they visited the Library of Congress and that was a fascinating listen. You know Charlie from Good Morning America (etc) and you’ll be delighted by his daughter Kate who is whip smart and funny.

Book lovers will love this, and less avid readers will be motivated to pick up a book
