The deeper Chandler Blood and John Moone dig, the older the bones they uncover. While Chandler tries—and fails—to keep his sanity under control back home, John tracks down an old ally known only as The Tree Wizard, a forest mystic who speaks to roots, ghosts, and things older than men.

What John learns out there in the woods changes everything: a fiery spirit called Ajim is loose in the hills, bound to a human host… and something even older is waking beneath the Smokies.

Back in town, Chandler’s not sleeping, Caym’s getting stronger, and the salt lines might not be enough to hold back what’s coming.
