  • Episode 118: Contracts, Community, and Career Longevity with Dr. Cynthia Hill
    Apr 29 2025

How do you find the right fit—and actually stay? In this guest episode, I’m joined by Dr. Cynthia Hill, a physician who’s been in the same clinic for over 20 years.

We talk about how she found meaningful work in a community she loves, what she’s learned through contract negotiations and career pivots, and why community is the secret to staying grounded in a system that’s constantly shifting.

    We’ll talk about:

    • Why finding the right work often means going against what others think is “best” for you.

    • How to negotiate a contract that protects you and your values—not just your paycheck.

    • The importance of having an exit plan (even when you love your job).

    • How community and culture shape long-term sustainability in medicine.

If you’ve ever felt torn between what’s safe and what’s meaningful, this episode is full of real talk, contract tips, and reminders that you’re allowed to build a career that fits you—not the other way around.

Dr. Cynthia Hill is a family medicine physician in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally from Petersburg, Virginia, she received an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Virginia. She attended the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University for medical school and remained there for family medicine residency. Her original goal was to become a child psychiatrist. After working part-time in a pediatric psychiatric hospital during medical school, she realized that psychiatry was not for her. Her goal was always to provide healthcare to underserved populations. Family medicine allowed her to care for a variety of patients and address health disparities. Her current role includes direct patient care and teaching residents in an urban health center. She has special interests in healthy diet and exercise. Dr. Cynthia is very passionate about her work, but self-care is a priority. She makes time to do the things that make her happy -exercise, travel, spending time with family and friends.

  • Episode 117: Performative Wellness vs Actual Change
    Apr 22 2025

Massages, PTO, therapy sessions—they’re supposed to help. But if you’re still exhausted, still waking up dreading Mondays, still rearranging your schedule just to recover... that’s not real wellness.

In this continuation of the Bloom series, I talk about the difference between what looks like wellness and what actually makes you feel better. Whether you’re overworking on vacation or scheduling rest like another obligation, it’s time to get honest about what’s helping and what’s just performative.

    We’ll discuss:

    • How to recognize when your wellness routines are just covering up burnout.

    • The mindset shifts that move you from performative wellness to actual change.

    • Why it’s time to stop self-caring your way out of burnout and start designing your life differently.

    • A simple challenge to help you interrupt the cycle this week.

You can’t build peace on top of chronic overfunctioning. If you’re ready to stop escaping your life and start living it differently, this episode is for you.

  • Episode 116: The Soft Life Is a Hard Win
    Apr 15 2025

We all say we want ease—but are you actually choosing it? In this episode, I’m talking about what it really takes to build a soft life and why it’s not as effortless as it seems. Rest, boundaries, and time freedom don’t just happen. They require strategy, unlearning, and a willingness to sit with discomfort.

This is for anyone who’s been romanticizing rest while still overcommitting, overworking, and overexplaining. The soft life isn’t a luxury—it’s a decision.

    We’ll talk about:

    • Why a soft life takes more discipline than hustle.

    • What it really means to say no, especially when money, guilt, or other people’s reactions are involved.

    • How to shift your thinking when you’ve been equating ease with laziness.

    • A practical way to audit your week and start making space for rest right now.

Ease is something you build, one intentional choice at a time. If you’re ready to stop performing exhaustion and actually live the life you’ve been craving, let’s do it together.
