Chris Herstad Carney and Matt Seamless have known each other for as long as they can't remember.

Whenever they take a trip down to The Biz & Shizzle for a session they also take a trip down musical memory lane.

Each time they look at notable moments in this history of the date of the session and chat large amounts of shiz about them.

Also prepare yourselves for pub quizzes, a grumpy landlord with a familiar voice and strong opinions before last orders.

If you like funny, date specific almanacs and pop trivia then this is the podcast for you...if you don't, then we're not sure what else we can do really.

Chris and Matty are back for their eighth session of "The Biz and Shizzle" at their local pub1. They kick off with a chat about board games after Matty discovers the Monopoly card game2.

The hosts share life updates: Matty's three-dog household is complete with the arrival of Maggie, a black lab cross who is massive, super strong, and "big bringing big labrador energy"3. Chris has started the last term of his Master's degree, focusing on podcasting4.

The duo then consults Harry for the date: September 26th.

They also read correspondence from a fan and the unofficial fan account, No Context Biz and Shizzle5.

    Can you guess:

    • Which late '90s British film director’s debut used the same James Brown songs as Spike Lee's
    • What unusual request a famous rock band made regarding backstage celery?

Plus, they celebrate birthdays for influential figures including: T.S. Eliot, George Gershwin, and Serena Williams.

They also remember the passing of Bessie Smith and Paul Newman.

The hosts discuss a major historical event tied to the date: the shift in wind that allowed William the Duke of Normandy to sail to England in 1066.

Chris gives a high recommendation for Spike Lee's Highest to Lowest, calling it "out the park stuff," and the TV show Only Murders in the Building.

They note that The Beatles officially received their MBEs on this day in 1965 & their final studio recording Abbey Road, was released in 1969.

It's the date that Prince began his protest against Warner Bros. by appearing with the word "Slave" written on his face in 1995 and The Jackson Five hit the 10 million

  • Session 7 : August 29th
    Aug 28 2025

Chris and Matty are back for their 7th session at The Biz and Shizzle.

This month, they discuss the date August 29th with interjections from the ever grumpy landlord, Harry Piles.

They share some surprising personal stories. Matty recounts a recent working holiday at Wilderness Festival and gives an important dog update, before finally revealing the fate of the van we heard so much about a couple of months ago.

Chris, meanwhile, describes witnessing a gangland execution in Liverpool's Baltic Triangle.

    Can you guess:

Which band shares its name with a document for receiving unemployment benefits?

Which two actors each won four Emmy awards for their roles in a drama and a comedy series?

There’s lots more in the pub quiz this month.

Plus, they celebrate a pop legend’s birthday with a sombre tone and explore why a Sinead O'Connor gig caused outrage (hint: it wasn't the Pope pic).

They also share their reckies for the month, including Chris's high praise for the new Superman movie and a documentary about Joni Mitchell's Isle of Wight Festival performance.

  • Session 6 : July 25th
    Jul 26 2025

This episode of "The Biz and Shizzle" finds co-hosts Chris and Matty still "stuck in the pub" for their sixth session.

They share personal updates, including Chris's recent heatstroke and Matty's busy campsite, before consulting landlord Harry Piles for the date: July 25th.

The duo raves about the new film 28 Years Later, appreciating its humour and direction, and tease a spoiler-filled deep dive on their new YouTube channel,

They also celebrate their first-ever listener email!

They then reveal what July 25th means for Americans.

The hosts celebrate births & commemorate the deaths of the day including two people with the most unlikely same name.

In music, they discuss The Beatles (as per) Bob Dylan going electric, and The Eurythmics' hit featuring Stevie Wonder.

They also discuss AC/DC's Back in Black, 2 Live Crew's controversial debut, and Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique (produced by The Dust Brothers, who also worked on a very unlikely pop banger).

In film, they cover Bill Murray's breakthrough role, rom-com classics, and iconic British TV series'.

They also learn about a tenuous but well placed link between Estelle Getty and Pharrell Williams.

But you might want to consider revisiting an anthem from one of your favourite childhood musicals, because it ain't all it seems...
