At the baptism of Jesus, the Father and the Holy Spirit publicly affirm and commission Him for
His ministry to sinful humanity. Jesus’ baptism was not an act of repentance, but an act of
identification—He chose to stand with us in our brokenness. Because He identifies with us, we
are invited to identify with Him, sharing in His righteousness, walking in faithfulness to the
Father, and living as beloved children sent into our own ministry.
