    Podcast description:

If you’ve ever struggled with anxiety, you know the exhausting cycle: symptoms appear, fear builds, and the immediate reaction is to try and “fix” what feels broken. But here’s the truth, fixing anxiety doesn’t work the way you think it does. In this episode of The Anxiety Guy Podcast, we dive into why fixing anxiety often makes symptoms worse, why your brain continues to trigger fear and adrenaline, and why living with anxiety differently is the path to real healing.

You’ll discover why anxiety symptoms keep coming back even after endless self-help methods, therapy, and quick fixes, and how the nervous system actually learns safety through new experiences, not more fixing. We’ll explore the common mistake of treating anxiety as a flaw to eliminate, how health anxiety recovery requires more than symptom control, and why chasing techniques often reinforces the very fear you’re trying to escape.

This podcast episode is for anyone dealing with health anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, panic attacks, or chronic worry, who feels trapped in the cycle of reassurance-seeking, symptom checking, and overthinking. If you’ve been searching for the best way to heal anxiety, understand your anxiety symptoms, and finally break free from the fixing cycle, this conversation will open the door to a new perspective.

Tune in for an honest, practical look at why fixing anxiety doesn’t work, and what you can begin focusing on instead to experience real, lasting anxiety recovery.

  • Anxiety, Survival Mode, and Dissociation: How to Rewire the Brain for Safety
    Sep 29 2025

👉 If health anxiety has been holding you back, explore the Health Anxiety Recovery Program at anxietyguyprograms.com rated the #1 program for health anxiety recovery, with daily guidance to help you make consistent progress.

    Podcast description:

In this episode of The Anxiety Guy Podcast, Dennis Simsek takes a deep dive into the connection between anxiety, survival mode, and dissociation, and why so many people feel stuck in a cycle of fear and symptoms.

When your nervous system lives in survival mode, everyday sensations can feel overwhelming. For many, the unconscious response is dissociation or zoning out, which may offer temporary relief but reinforces the brain’s belief that the experience is unsafe. Dennis explains how this automatic anxiety reaction develops, the science behind the survival response, and why dissociation can keep you trapped in the anxiety cycle.

Most importantly, you’ll learn how to begin rewiring your brain for safety using practical tools:

    • Recognizing when you slip into dissociation

    • Introducing safety signals that calm the nervous system

    • Shifting from fear to curiosity to change old anxiety patterns

    • Using repetition and neuroplasticity to create lasting healing

Whether you’re dealing with health anxiety, panic disorder, or chronic stress, this episode will give you hope, science-backed insights, and practical steps to move out of survival mode and into a state of safety and healing.

I stumbled upon the anxiety guy a few days ago and have listened to several of his podcasts each day and have fallen in love with his message and advice. he does a fantastic job of explaining his ideas and educating the audience in a way that is clear, concise, and very effective. I appreciate how short each episode is and not having to try and listen to someone ramble on forever just to get to the point. not only are his insights incredibly helpful but I find that the advice/instruction he provides in order to heal from anxiety to be very simple and doable. he is very realistic and doesn't bother to sugar coat things. it's also very apparent that this man has lived through anxiety and has moved past it himself, his wisdom is invaluable and I'm so grateful to have found him.

the most helpful podcast I have listened to for help with anxiety

Has bad advice mixed with some good. I’m all for people doing and taking what works for them for their anxiety whether it’s talk therapy, prescriptions, homeopathic medicine, exercise, eating healthy, and therapy techniques. The list goes. Do what is good for you and works for you. I do not like how he puts down seeing a therapist or a doctor and constantly stating how you should go 100% natural and not be on medication. Some people need their meds to help manage their symptoms and live their lives. Telling them straight up that it’s not good for them can cause some serious harm if that advice is taken when it’s not a good fit for them.

Bad advice.
