The Advantage of Being White: Understanding White Privilege

Being white often provides unearned social advantages known as “white privilege.” These include greater access to opportunities, less likelihood of facing racial discrimination, more positive cultural representation, economic benefits, and a general assumption of belonging in most social and professional settings. These advantages are rooted in historical and systemic factors and do not imply that all white individuals are without personal challenges, but rather that their race is less likely to be a source of disadvantage.
