  • No Excuse For Bills Defense To Not Be Great
    Apr 28 2025

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to discuss several topics, including how with all the resources allocated to the Buffalo Bills defense through free agency and now the draft, it better be a unit that looks dramatically better in 2025.

Since the 2024 season ended with an AFC title game loss at Arrowhead against Kansas City, the Bills notable offensive changes have consisted of signing Josh Palmer and Laviska Shenault while letting Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper walk. They failed to add a wide receiver until the seventh round of this latest NFL draft and did grab a primarily blocking tight end late in the fifth. Meanwhile they signed Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi, Michael Hoecht, Darrick Forrest, Tre White and and Dane Jackson in free agency. They then proceeded to use their first five picks and six of the first seven on defense in the draft. It's essentially an entire defensive makeover from last year.

That's fine, but as the guys discuss it better lead to consistently positive changes because if it doesn't, especially come January it should be a direct indictment against Brandon Beane, Sean McDermott, Bobby Babich and other defensive coaches.

They also spend some time talking Joe's trip to Western New York over the past week, including meeting up with Patrick at Resurgence Brewing last Thursday for a Bills draft party and live podcast afterwards. That plus another Mt. Flushmore, fan comments and much more.

Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red’s at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. We consider them THE most underrated spot for wings, pizza and other great food in Western New York plus it’s a great place to drink and have a great time.

  • Bills Day Three & Overall Draft Reactions
    Apr 27 2025

On this bonus weekend episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran has full live reactions shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL draft, including a Saturday that saw Buffalo make one big (literal and figurative) trade and six day-three selections in all.

After going defense on nights one and two of the draft the Bills kept it going in round four. In fact, they packaged a late fourth and a fifth to move up to pick No. 109 that they originally traded from Chicago to go get mammoth defensive tackle Deonte Walker from Kentucky Patrick has plenty of thoughts on the move, if it made sense to him, the joy of instantly seeing people no longer whining that TJ Sanders isn't a one tech defensive tackle and what it could mean for a few veteran tackles.

Patrick also has takes on the Bills other three selections, including a tight end (Jackson Hawes) he nailed in his mock draft and a strong (pun) cornerback he likes in Dorian Strong.

He also offers opinions on what he loved and hated about this draft for the Bills, a few things around the league he hated about the draft as it pertains to the Bills. That plus running down his biggest steals from each round around the league, the biggest winners and losers among the Bills veterans now that draft is over and plenty more.

  • Bills Swing Big On Night Two (LIVE Reactions)
    Apr 26 2025

On today's bonus Saturday episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Mike Bundt from Trainwreck Sports for LIVE reactions immediately following night two of the NFL draft, an evening that included the Buffalo Bills moving up bigtime for the defensive tackle they coveted and staying on the D-line in round three.

It's now obvious that TJ Sanders was a prospect Bills general manager Brandon Beane was high on. Buffalo gave up picks 56, 62 and 109 to the Chicago Bears in exchange for 41, 72 and a seventh-round pick. After moving up 15 spots the Bills took Sanders, a 305-pound versatile defensive tackle from South Carolina. The guys have a bunch of thoughts on Sanders, the first defensive tackle to get drafted in the second round.

In the third round the Bills stayed on the defensive line and took 6-5, 264 pound Arkansas edge rusher Landon Jackson, a prospect that has been heavily linked to the Bills throughout this entire draft process. Jackson had 6.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for a loss last year with the Razorbacks. The guys react to the pick and Patrick admits that while it feels like great value, he really (really) wanted Buffalo to take Notre Dame safety.

They also react to more things Buffalo and an exciting draft through two nights.

Make sure to follow Mike on Twitter @Mike_Bundt.

  • Bills Grab Maxwell Hairston Round One LIVE Reactions From Resurgence Brewing
    Apr 25 2025

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined in person by Joe From Queens for full Buffalo Bills & NFL reaction to night one of the NFL Draft, recorded live from Resurgence Brewery in downtown Buffalo just moments after the Bills selected Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston with the first round pick at No. 30.

It’s a mildly surprising move with popular mock selection Trey Amos on the board but the Bills went for upside and playmaking with Hairston, who ran a 4.28/40 at the Combine, the best of any one at any position. He’s a playmaker and willing tackler but definitely not known for his tackling. He’s also more polished as a man defender than zone, both at least semi departures from what they usually look for. The guys have plenty of instant reactions to that and Patrick on a few surprises that happened throughout the first round.

The guys were on hand at Resurgence for their Bills Draft Party, an event hosted by WGR 550’s Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase with tons of fans and other outlets, including Bills Mafia founding member Del Reid.

  • Final Bills Draft Thoughts, Scenarios & Predictions
    Apr 24 2025

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran offers his final Buffalo Bills team and draft thoughts, scenarios and predictions for Buffalo and around the league just hours before the start of the 2025 NFL Draft.

There's always so much to chew on and digest in the wanning moments before the draft and this year is certainly not exception. Among other topics, Patrick has thoughts on what bringing Tre White means and how it may connect to the draft as well the next few days potentially serving as a form of indication on how the team is feeling about 2024 second-round wide receiver Keon Coleman, who flashed but was also highly consistent as a rookie.

Also, safety is a position being highly discussed and picked for the Bills early in mock drafts by many national media folk, including Malaki Starts going to Buffalo in Benjamin Albright's mock draft. Patrick wonders if the safety talk is just that---all talk.

Additionally, several Notre Dame players that Patrick feels like really good fits for the Bills right for now are mentioned, as well as non-first round guys he really likes and doesn't and who his top five most likely Bills first overall picks are as things stand.

That plus Patrick breezes through his one and only seven round Bills mock draft that includes not one, not two but three trade ups and more.

  • Buffalo Bills Seven Round Mock Draft (Final Version)
    Apr 23 2025

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Aaron Quinn from Cover 1 for a final Buffalo Bills seven round mock draft. less than two days before the actual NFL Draft commences on Thursday night.

As is the case every year, injury reports are emerging on a handful of top prospects just days before the draft, which could push down guys who've been pretty to very high in a lot of mocks. These prospects include defensive tackles Derrick Harmon and Alfred Collins and cornerback Will Johnson. Aaron also shares how he's feeling about wide receiver Keon Coleman going into his second year and what, if anything the signing of Tre White means as it pertains to this year's draft.

Kicking the draft off and things mostly go the way the guys want leading up to the Bills pick at 30, at least in terms of cornerbacks. Both Harmon and Derrick Grant are available but go off the board within five picks of Buffalo, showing it's likely Brandon Beane would have to move up for one. Aaron doesn't and is happy take a cornerback with question marks but a very high ceiling. They take what Aaron calls a bit of a luxury pick with their first of two round selections and grab defensive Joshua Palmer at pick No. 62.

From there they try to wait on making a trade for specific players a few times that proves to be unsuccessful. The guys end up taking a speedy wide receiver and doubling down at defensive tackle in the fourth round before selecting a bunch of flyers on guys Aaron admittedly doesn't feel great about, lamenting not trading up and having less picks.

In all though, it's a haul that both guys seem to like with a heavy emphasis on improving the talent in the secondary, with defensive end being the sacrificial lamb for it. Most Bills fans would surely be satisfied with this draft.

  • Draft Prospects To Love (And Not) For The Bills
    Apr 22 2025

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by SB Nation's Matt Warren to discuss several topics, including going back and forth over who's their favorite potential Buffalo Bills draft prospects as well as their least favorites.

The NFL Draft is just a few days away and by this point fans have heard plenty about several prospects spanning a handful of positions, including defensive tackle, edge rusher, cornerback, safety and wide receiver. Both Patrick and Matt have five of their personal favorites as well as five they feel are more hype than substance. The guys take turns going through their lists of each and why they would love or dislike the Bills taking them.

Also, Buffalo re-signed former All-Pro cornerback Tre White to a one-year contract last week. Matt has plenty of thoughts on that and how, if at all it may effect Brandon Beane's draft strategy. Plus, does Matt have something against Phil Hansen being on the Bills Wall of Fame, what they liked and disliked about Wrestlemania 41 this past weekend and much more.

You can follow Matt on Twitter @MattRichWarren and be sure to check out Buffalo Rumblingsfor your (really good) daily Bills content.

  • Top 20 Modern Era Bills Non-First Round Picks
    Apr 21 2025

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens to conversate on several Buffalo Bills topics, including counting down Patrick's list of the top 20 Buffalo Bills non first round draft picks of the modern era.

Through interest and plenty of boredom, Patrick spent several hours going through every year of the Bills draft history and coming up with his power rankings of the best players that weren't taken in the first round. It's important to note that by modern era that means anytime past 1970 after the NFL and AFL merged. That disqualified a handful of 1960's draft picks that would've easily been on and likely near the top of the list, such as Butch Byrd, Mike Stratton, Tom Sestak and Billy Shaw.

Patrick counts down his list with explanations for each and spoiler alert---there's three current Buffalo Bills players on the list. As you'd expect Joe has plenty to say about several of the players and especially the order Patrick has them ranked in. Fun little spoiler alert----Joe is not very keen on Patrick's placement of Phil Hansen and also thinks current Bills cornerback Taron Johnson is ranked way too low.

Also, Joe has his Buffalo Bills/NFL Draft bingo board with plenty of hilarious nuggets. That plus their "True and False" segment, trying to avoid wrestling talk during Wrestlemania weekend and more.
