  • Know How... 197: FPV Up and Running
    Mar 24 2016

We solder, zip tie, and apply our FPV system to our FPV150 Project!

    FPV150 Tools and parts required:

    1. Snips, strips, screwdrivers
    2. Soldering kit.
    3. FPV Kit (Transmitter, camera, antenna)
    4. Foam 5. Zip Ties

Steps for installing the FPV system

    1. Cut, strip & tin the power leads after cutting them down
    2. Solder the power leads to the 12v pads
    3. Cut foam to fit the frame and the camera
    4. Cut out a slot for the camera and mount on the frame
    5. Connect power and camera leads
    6. Zip Tie FPV transmitter to top of frame
    7. Zip Tie the receiver leads to the back of the frame

    A Note on Polarization Linear:

    • Straight antenna
    • Can give you the longest range (With a High Gain)
    • HOWEVER... it is suceptible to multipath fading (Lots of echos that scramble or cancel the signal)
    • We measure linear antennas based on db gain Circular:
    • This is the norm for FPV piloting
    • Multipath echos still happen, but because of the circular polarization, they enter the reciever at a MUCH lower signal than the primary, so the fading effect is much reduced
    • We measure circular antennas on Axial Ratio

FPV Systems Fatshark Dominator HD2 ($519)

    • Analog DVR in the goggles
    • 800 x 600 screens
    • Modular Receiver (not included)

Skyzone FPV Goggles (5.8Ghz Diversity) ($306)

Quanum FPV Bundle (Cam, Transmitter, Receiver, Goggles) ($74.99)
