  • The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991-1995)
    Mar 23 2026

In the 90's, gross shit for kids was a big seller. The grosser the better, as far as marketing was concerned, and one television network took it upon themselves to capitalize heavily on the phenomenon. Nickelodeon, back in the day, was a great place to spend your childhood years. They had it all! Double Dare, Legends of the Hidden Temple, GUTS, and Nick Arcade were redefining game shows for a younger audience, while scripted shows such as Doug, Rugrats, AAAHH!!! REAL MONSTERS, and, of course, our topic for this episode Ren & Stimpy were massive smash-hits for primetime audiences, young and old. Chad and Jess were just a couple of sponge-brained mocking birds at the height of early Nicktoon's success, and both agree that The Ren & Stimpy Show was the obvious stand out. So, does it still hold up, or is it better left to rest in the comfort of bygone blissful nostalgia? Check out this episode to hear what they have to say. Stay Pretty!

  • The Maxx (MTV Series, 1995)
    Feb 23 2026

Once again we pull from the animation well of MTV to discuss The Maxx, a strange animated series based on comic veteran Sam Keith's (Wolverine, The Sandman, Ojo) 35 issue comic series of the same name. This stream of conscience psychedelic road trip of an animated series has a lot going on...like, a whole lot. Although muddled down with a convoluted plot that is loosely strung together with questionable character motivations, The Maxx still holds up strongly to the test of time in the visual department of animation history, even pioneering some of the tricks we would see in cartoons that came out after this. Can plot and character development take a back seat to visual appeal for something this ambitious to succeed, or did it underperform on every fundamental level to remain relevant in the modern zeitgeist? Chad and Jess are back to talk about their experience. Bon Appetit!

  • Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (Film, 1988) and Who Censored Roger Rabbit? (Novel, 1981)
    Feb 9 2026

Today, we're talking about Who Framed Roger Rabbit, a beloved, award winning movie from our childhood that combines a groundbreaking mix of live-action and animation. And, we'll also be discussing the lesser known novel that the motion picture is supposed to be based on, but took the most liberties of any adaptation in the history film, aside from maybe Lawnmower Man. Stay Pretty!

  • Spawn the Animated Series (1997-1999) and Live Action Film (1997)
    Jan 26 2026

Comic books in the 90's ushered in a new breed of super-hero. Darker, edgier, angrier, and in Todd McFarlane's case, weirder. From the independent exodos that became Image comics comes their flagship title: Spawn. When CSA Soldier, Al Simmons, is betrayed by the government agency that created him, he is murdered and sent to hell. Once there, he makes a deal with the devil to come back to earth to see his wife, Wanda. But, Malbolgia himself has spent the past 5 years crafting a life for him to come back to that will break his will to stay and follow through with Hell's plan to have Al lead Malbolgia's army into Armageddon. Now forced to come to terms that he has been dead for 5 years, Al Simmons is lost to the moniker that is Hellspawn, and must find a way to keep his humanity while wanting unrelenting justice for those responsible for his death. Chad and Jess are here today to talk about the HBO animated Series Spawn, as well as the lesser appreciated live action film of the same name, but Chad loves anyway. Stay Pretty!

  • Aeon Flux (Series 1991-1995, Film 2005)
    Jan 12 2026

Back in it's heyday, MTV was actually kida.....badass. They were pioneers of how society would interact with, and be influenced by pop-culture. Among the countless hours of music and celebrity gossip, and while they weren't busy killing radio stars, they decided to take a risk on animation, which was already part of the MTV brand with all of their trippy animated bumpers. From that, comes Liquid Television, an animated/live action surreal anthology series that aired back in the early '90s. Aeon Flux was one of the featured segments, and became popular enough to spawn a short television series that became a massive hit with the horny sci-fi weirdo crowd, our own Chad included. Over the decades, Aeon Flux has definitely earned it's cult-classic fanbase with the style and substance that is synonymous with this iconic series, and has influenced other creators to conceive some very interesting content.

And, of course, like anything else we love from our childhood, this too received a pretty piss-poor live-action adaptation...but not a bad sci fi experience of it's own. Chad and Jess are here to tell you what they think about this blast-from-the-past, apocalyptic, biopunk gem. Enjoy!
