"Traumatic events do not have to turn into traumatic stress..."
In this episode, Mad Maid explains definitions of childhood trauma, some views of childhood trauma in the mental health community (including a discussion on ACEs or adverse childhood experiences), and what it looks like when childhood trauma triggers you in adulthood.
Mad Maid discusses what helps protect children and teens from the effects of trauma, and what has helped in her own trauma healing journey.
Special attention is focused on coming to terms with childhood trauma as an adult and how this includes forgiving yourself for coping mechanisms learned and used to survive in younger years and becoming the type of adult you would feel safe with. Finally, the episode explores the topic of power, trauma types, and why feeling is important to processing and healing in adulthood.
Mad Maid is a feminist mental health podcast on a mission to bring light to dark topics including suicide prevention, self-harm, sexual assault, addictions, eating disorders, gender, sexuality, and so much more.
