  • Minisode 155 - Tier 2: Tier We F*ckin' Go
    Jun 6 2021

    Gooood morning!

It's Monday, we're back with MINISODE 155, and Andy and Mitch are in the same room!!!!

That's right, Tier 3 is in Glasgow's rearview (for now?) so we've caught up with the rest of the UK for an in person recording!

Lots to discuss as Andy and Mitch simultaneously dig into Shudder original CAVEAT and this week's INSIDE NO 9, while Andy takes a broad look at Second Sight's release of LAKE MUNGO and Mitch has some thoughts on BLACK ROSES as a new side quest kicks off.

Needless to say, we've also got pitches, feedback, announcements and more!

  • 152 - My Science Project (with Adam Stovall)
    Jun 3 2021

Happy Friday, CHUDs! Another week is at an end, so why not coast on into your weekend with EPISODE 152!

This week we welcome back the man responsible for one of our best-loved episodes on GREMLINS 2, and the writer and director of Arrow Video's A GHOST WAITS, ADAM STOVALL!

That's right, our last in-person guest (15 months ago?!) return from a safe distance to help us take a look at 1985's sci-fi comedy MY SCIENCE PROJECT. A first watch for both Andy and Mitch, join us for a look at an insurrectionist science-teaching Dennis Hopper, a hugely unexpected third-act dinosaur and a brief foray into Mitch's short-lived and enormously problematic tenure as a childhood stage actor in the 90s.

  • Minisode 154 - A Neck Made From Solid Brass
    May 30 2021

    GOOOOOOOD MORNING CHUDS!!

The sun is shining, some of you are enjoying your Bank Holiday, Andy is chock-full of vaccine number two, and we are back with MINISODE 154!

Andy concludes his Nature Gone Wild side quest with new release GREAT WHITE, and we have some news on where our side quests will take us next, courtesy of some excellent CHUD feedback. Elsewhere, we continue our weekly examination of INSIDE NO 9 and Mitch has some choice words about Netflix original thriller THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW.

As ever, we're also taking a look at your feedback, playing Mitch's Pitches, looking ahead to a busy week on the streaming platforms, and announcing the welcome return of one of our favourite people in the world for this Friday!

The podcast giving a second chance to films that might not deserve it. This is among my absolute favorite podcasts. The two hosts (Mitch Bain and Andy Stewart) are utterly delightful, as are all of their guests. The premise is simple: the guest chooses a horror/scifi/genre movie to defend that is either unloved (critically or commercially) or underseen. The movie is briefly summarized by the guest and then dissected – good, bad and ugly -- by the hosts and guest in discussion. Simple, right? Like a million other horror/film fan podcasts out there. BUT. This is SO much better than the million other podcasts out there.

The hosts are tremendously engaging, charming and funny. Get used to the looks you get from strangers when you laugh out loud in public listening to Mitch and Andy. They are also at the center of a wonderfully warm, welcoming online community. Their guests are frequently filmmakers, writers, journalists, and horror fans – and also lots of fun to listen to. SVPC has been going for a few years now, so there are plenty of great episodes to catch up on. Main episodes (with guests) drop on Fridays and mini-sodes drop on Mondays. Although I like to watch the movies to be discussed ahead of time, it really isn’t necessary and I have just as much fun with episodes about films I haven’t seen. Warning: the podcast may contain spoilers, conversations of an adult nature, and lovely Scottish accents.

I simply can't recommend this podcast highly enough. Give it a listen. You will be glad that you did.

Genre film fans -- this is an absolute MUST listen
