    Apr 11 2026

The price of Aussie seafood could soon be out of reach for everyday families with warnings only the wealthy might be able to afford wild-caught fish in the near future.

The industry says soaring fuel costs and shrinking supply, are pushing local operators to the brink, with some even considering importing seafood for the first time in decades.

So, is this just a rough patch or are we watching the slow collapse of Australia’s wild-caught seafood industry?

Burty speaks with Paul Schenk from Mooloolaba Fisheries to get his industry insights.

  • Why are kids not "stepping outside" as much as they used to?
    Mar 28 2026

Last week on the program, we spoke about how changes to social media access were leading some parents to book their kids into outdoor activities like fishing charters. But more broadly, there’s growing concern that fewer Australian kids are spending time outside—or taking part in sport at all.

New insights suggest a mix of social, technological, and lifestyle factors could be driving that shift. To unpack it all, Burty spoke with Associate Professor Vince Kelly from QUT.
