Acerca de esta escucha

Special interests create a sensory experience for the autistic brain. They satisfy the autistic’s sense of wonder and love for learning. Yet special interests are referred to as “circumscribed” “obsessions” “preoccupations” “limited” “restricted.” Are they? Or is there something else going on?

Was very enjoyable to hear about your personal opinion on the different perspectives of autisms labels. Most people who have been diagnosed are extremely knowledgeable about everything. Sensitive to texture, smells, sounds.. Great read

The array of my special interests often frustrates the neurotypical people that I know, past and present. Neurotypicals have difficulty understanding how an autistic person can ‘see’ with multiple senses and thus we need to explore the world and our immediate environments continuously. It isn’t necessarily a choice, but something innate. I appreciate this podcast because it helps me overcome the shame that society has forced upon the autistic community for simply existing. I will spend the rest of my life recovering from the lies and the abuse done to me for merely being different and I will advocate for all of us within the neurodiverse community who have been made to feel unworthy and less than by those abusers. This is our truth and our awakening. Be ready for us.
