  • The Strength in Teaming
    Jul 8 2025

Small Steps, Big Wins. A podcast focused on the financial world and more. Paul Blanco, CEO of Barnum Financial Group, sits down with a special guest each week to discuss important topics within the financial sector. He’ll explore what it takes to be successful in our everyday lives and learn what shapes our industry.

Podcast Episode Title: The Strength in Teaming

Guest Bio: I remember as a child my father managing a very successful restaurant in town and then later owning a not so successful restaurant. Knowing what I know now, I wish there would’ve been someone to help my family make better financial decisions in the good times, which then could have provided better opportunities in the down times. That is why I do what I do.

I grew up in central Maine (Orono) where everyone played a different sport each season. Baseball in the spring and summer, basketball in the winter (I try to forget about soccer in the fall - I am an awful soccer player). I’d always been part of a team growing up and realized I prefer working as part of a team in my professional life. I’ve partnered with another advisor, Marcello DePascale (an all-state soccer player from North Haven, CT), whose strengths more than cover areas in which I am not so strong in and who is the perfect complement to me on our team. Sara Matschke is the glue that keeps our team together. Sara began working on our team in 2009 and she does such a great job helping our clients that I’m quite certain clients who call in prefer to talk to her rather than me!

My wife Michelle and I moved to Oxford, CT in 2005. Our son Alex (2007) and daughter Riley (2009) are involved in numerous activities including swimming, gymnastics, basketball, and softball/ baseball. They certainly keep us busy on the weekends!

Podcast Episode Description: Chuck Hite is a financial planner with Barnum Financial Group who found his inspiration to join this industry at an early age but came into it the business from a career change. His path, while not atypical, opened him up to the strength of teaming and how a team can provide great insight when helping clients.

  • Getting Into Your Green Zone
    Jul 1 2025

Small Steps, Big Wins. A podcast focused on the financial world and more. Paul Blanco, CEO of Barnum Financial Group, sits down with a special guest each week to discuss important topics within the financial sector. He’ll explore what it takes to be successful in our everyday lives and learn what shapes our industry.

Podcast Episode Title: Getting Into Your Green Zone

Guest Bio: My experience in the practice of equity compensation is unmatched. I have helped many equity compensation employees, primarily in the pharmaceutical world, with questions about company sponsored stock options plans and how to build a diversified portfolio. I understand the proper ways around a vesting schedule to help employees earn the most money, all while continuing employment.

The list of what I offer equity compensated employees is robust:

    • Maximize the value and manage the risk of equity compensations
    • Build a diversified client investment portfolio
    • Screen out unintended overlap to stock options
    • Apply tax mitigation strategies on stock option sales
    • Manage and maintain a concentrated company stock position for employees

My approach is a focused approach on managing your wealth, but I also understand the need to take care of your family. I tout a holistic approach to your planning for equity compensation but also promote a positive work-life balance to enjoy your financial gains.

Managing your wealth is figuring out how and when to:

    • Sell down some of your shares in a tax-efficient manner.
    • Build a diversified portfolio appropriate for your risk tolerance and your financial goals.

    Outside of the Office

When I’m not working with my clients, I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife, Daniela and our two daughters, Gabriela and Giada live in Monroe, Connecticut. My two biggest passions include cooking and making homemade wine. Every October, I enjoy a 3-4 weeklong process of making wine from grapes the old-fashioned way. Daniela’s parents are both chefs and they own their own restaurant, so I’ve been able to pick up some great cooking tips from them. Food and good wine are easy conversation starters and have helped me develop great relationships with clients, family, and friends.

If you have questions about your tax consequences, the concentration risk of your overall allocation or even about where to get a great bottle of wine, I have years of experience to mine for your financial success and personal enjoyment.

Podcast Episode Description: Eric Gerhard joins the show to share his personal journey in this industry. Finding your focus — what works for you and also what doesn’t work for you— is important to shaping your ability to be the best financial planner for your clients. As Eric says, getting yourself into your Green Zone, your optimal mode, balancing work and life and being able to perform at a high level every single day.
