  • Episode 82: Sewer Cryptids Part 2 - A Load of Tosh
    Feb 3 2026

Matt, Katie and EJ continue their investigation into the legends of Sewer Cryptids. During the mid-19th century, journalist Henry Mayhew chronicled the lives, work, and philosophies of London's lower class. He became particularly fascinated with the toshers, men who crept through the sewers looking for lost valuables. Their experiences, toiling away in the dingy tunnels, gave rise to fantastic tales. According to the toshers, a race of feral hogs roamed the underground, viscously attacking anyone they found. Even more unbelievable was the story of the Queen Rat, who could curse or bless a tosher, depending on her mood. Collectively, these legends paint a tapestry of folklore born from the darkness of an underworld just beneath London's feet.

  • Episode 81: Sewer Cryptids Part 1 - The Big Stink
    Jan 20 2026

Beneath the streets of all major cities lie a mirror world of darkness. A sprawling network of interconnected tunnels and passageways, where all manner of monsters could lurk. As long as we’ve had sewers, we’ve had stories of the things that lived down there, in the dark, waiting for you to step just a little too far from the comfort of your home.

According to legends, our sewers are home for fearsome creatures, living amongst the filth and preying on interlopers. Vicious, wild hogs attacked anyone who ventured underground. Gigantic rats traveled in packs of hundreds, lead by a shapeshifting queen. Stampedes of cattle thundered below the streets, while blind alligators cruised the stinking waters hunting for prey. The stories of sewer cryptids serve as a rich foundation from which to explore human engineering, and the role that myths and legends play when technology and progress bumps up against the untamed world.
