  • What does it mean to be blessed? | Sermon by Rev. Allison Jean | November 23, 2025
    Nov 24 2025

Do small things even make a difference? When we read about global news and national headlines, it's hard to believe that individual acts accomplish anything. But small things done in the love of God are not random or pointless; they are acts of partnership in the work of Jesus. During this series we fight against the lie that we can't make a difference in our local, personal lives; instead, we commit to partner with Jesus, doing small things with great love.

Small things. Great love. | Rev. Allison Jean | First United Methodist Church of Richardson

  • What is a saint? | Sermon by Dr. Clayton Oliphint | November 2, 2025
    Nov 3 2025

Do small things even make a difference? When we read about global news and national headlines, it's hard to believe that individual acts accomplish anything. But small things done in the love of God are not random or pointless; they are acts of partnership in the work of Jesus. During this series we fight against the lie that we can't make a difference in our local, personal lives; instead, we commit to partner with Jesus, doing small things with great love. As we continue to follow the news surrounding the federal government shutdown and the temporary suspension of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, we want to invite this community to consider how we can best respond with compassion and hope to our neighbors who may be directly impacted.

Jesus calls us to feed the hungry, care for the sick, and lift up the vulnerable. And as the Book of Discipline ¶220 reminds us, all who are baptized are called "to identify with the agony and suffering of the world and to radiate and exemplify the Christ of hope."

In this moment, our compassion and response matter!

For Those Who Want to Help: We are deeply grateful for our long-standing partnerships with local organizations that serve those in need every day, and especially in times of crisis.

Monetary Donations: Our partners at Network of Community Ministries have shared that monetary donations currently stretch the farthest. Their partnerships with local suppliers allow them to purchase food efficiently and ensure that all neighbors receive items that meet dietary and religious needs. You may give online through FUMCR (fumcr.com/givenow - Fund:Other - Sub-fund: Network) or directly to Network.

Food Donations: Network continues to welcome direct food donations. You can view their updated wish list here: Network Amazon Wish List

Volunteer Opportunities: Those who want to volunteer their time can serve directly with Network or the North Texas Food Bank, both of which are actively distributing food and resources to those affected. You can find information on their websites, thenetwork.org and nftb.org

For Those Who Need Help - If you hear from congregation members or community neighbors who are struggling during this time, please share these resources:

Network of Community Ministries: (Richardson residents and RISD families): thenetwork.org or 972.234.8880

North Texas Food Bank: (for regional support): nftb.org or 214.330.1396 to locate a food distribution site

FUMCR Neighbors in Need Assistance and Caring Ministries: Anyone in need of pastoral or immediate assistance may be directed to our main office, and we will connect them with the appropriate ministry or partner organization.
